The Miniature Dachshund is a breed of dog in Nintendogs and its 3DS sequel. It is the mascot of the DS game: Dachshund and Friends.
Description
DS: "This breed appeared in Germany, Its elongated torso and short legs of this breed give it a comical air."
3DS: "This breed from Germany is unmistakable, with its very long torso and short legs.
The Dachshund is a short-legged, elongated dog breed of the hound group. Variations of the pronunciation include däks'hoont, -hʊnt, -hʊnd, -ənd, dɑks-, dæks-, dæʃ-), the breed's name is German and literally means "badger dog", from [der] Dachs, "badger", and [der] Hund, "dog". Due to the long, narrow build, they are sometimes referred to as a weiner dog or a sausage dog. Not withstanding the German origin of the dachshund's name, within German-speaking countries, the breed is known—both formally and informally—as the Dackel or Teckel. While classified as a hound in English-speaking countries, some consider the classification to be in error, speculating that it arose from the fact that the German word Hund is similar to the English word hound. In fact, many dachshunds, especially the wire-haired sub type, exhibit behavior and appearance that are far more similar to that of the terrier group of dogs. The standard size was developed to scent, chase, and flush badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals, while the miniature was developed to hunt rabbits. All three coat variations share the short legs, long body, and floppy ears.Unfortunately, because of the Dachshund's long body, it is known for the breed to have spine problems like slipped discs.
The breed comes in standard and miniature size and has three coat variations: smooth-hair, long-hair, and wire-hair. The Dachshunds in-game are all short-hair. The breed comes in more colors than are available in-game, such as gray, brown, pure black, chocolate-and-tan, and merle. They may not actually come in pure white in the real world, but they do come in piebald (white with black) and skewbald (white with other colours), which is nonstandard according to the AKC.
Hot dogs were originally called "Dachshund sausages."
