The Jerky Treat/Beef Jerky (Japanese: ジャーキー Jākī) is a food item in Nintendogs and Nintendogs + Cats that falls under the category of "Care" in the Supplies. It is a piece of dried beef that can be given to the dog as a snack.

Nintendogs[]
Jerky Treats come in a blue packet that says "Dog Jerky" on it. Dogs eat Jerky Treats on a first come first serve basis, since the player has to throw the treats into the room. They can be given at home or at the park. Feeding a dog the treat will reduce its hunger, but less effectively than most food items.
Nintendogs + Cats[]
Beef Jerky comes in a red checkered packet that also says "Dog Jerky" on it. Dogs cannot have Beef Jerky thrown to them; they have to be called to the player individually in order to get treats. They can also be given to dogs at the park as well as on walks. This same mechanic applies to other treats, such as the Biscuit. Beef Jerky is similar to Heart Cookies and Puppy Chews in that they help puppies learn behaviors and tricks faster. They are more effective than Biscuits for that reason. However, too much Beef Jerky can affect physique, making puppies Plump or Overfed and thus unsuccessful in competitions. Players should give their puppies the proper exercise to prevent this.
While kittens don't mind Beef Jerky, they prefer cat-specific treats.

How to Obtain[]
- In Nintendogs, the Jerky Treat cannot be found on walks. It can be purchased at the Discount Shop occasionally after the player has obtained 300 Trainer Points. Since prices vary each time the player visits the shop, the Jerky Treat can range from $0.20 - $0.40. It sells for $0.20 at the Secondhand Shop.
- In Nintendogs + Cats, Beef Jerky is exclusive to Golden Retriever & New Friends and can be purchased at BARC for $3 after reaching 2,350 Owner Points or playing for 12 days. This treat can also be obtained from the Pedometer after 100-999 steps. It sells for $2 at the Secondhand Shop.
