The Bark Mode Book (Japanese: すれちがい通信の本 Surechigaitsūshin no hon) is one of the six care books in Nintendogs. It is given to the player upon starting the game and cannot be obtained from or sold in any store.

About Bark Mode[]
Choose Go Out and then choose Bark Mode to activate the Bark Mode passing wireless communication. If you happen to pass by someone else who has activated Bark Mode, your dog and their dog will meet in your DS. If you always put Nintendogs into Bark Mode and carry it around with you, you may encounter someone where and when you least expect it...
Trainer Info[]
When you meet another trainer via Bark Mode, your Trainer Info will automatically be sent to the other trainer. Your trainer info can be found under Info on the Go Out menu. Initially, your personal information entered on your DS system menu will appear. To make changes to this info, touch EDIT and change the areas you want. Even if you change your trainer info, your system menu will not change.
Voice Message[]
You can send a brief voice message to other trainers through Bark Mode. You can record this message by choosing the white record found under your Music supplies. You can record, layer, and delete voice messages on the white record. Touch the Record icon, then lift the record needle and place it on the record. To stop recording, just remove the needle from the record. To listen to your message, touch the Play icon and place the needle on the record. To delete the message, remove the needle from the record and touch the Delete icon.
Your Friends List[]
After you meet wirelessly with another trainer via Bark Mode, they will be added to your Friend List under Info. You can check their profile and perhaps even read a comment from that person. You can have as many friends as you want.
Trivia[]
- This Care Book has 9 pages.
- Friend information does not change until the player interacts with that friend again.
- If a friend has changed their name since last interacting with them, they will not be registered as a new person on the friend list.
- Friend information from reset save files will stay on the Friend List unless deleted by the player.
- The Friend List displays the date last interacted with a friend and the overall number of interactions that the player has had with them.
